Invitation on SimpleSnip and Joost

Thought a lot about invitations during the last days. Primarly whether it’s good to start with a minimal team of testers and grant them invitations or just do some beta testing and then open all the doors.

It’s not easy to decide as each way has its benefits and i think i’ll have to meditate a bit more about that stuff. Probably also talking to some guys about that topic would be great. What do you think? What’s your position on that topic?

…but while thinking about invitations i got the possibility to give away some ;) I just received the actual Joost news announcing Version 0.9 of the windows client and granting me 5 more invitation tokens. I thought i’ll giv’em my first readers on the project blog.

Joost anyone?

Sorry, Joost invites are sold out! ;)

To me closed beta testing seems like a good idea. The initial team should include experienced testers only for the purpose of testing, not creating media impact. However, a secret test going on will very likely draw some attention.

I’m in favour of testing software with a small group of people who know what they’re doing.

Closed tests with a small group of experienced users will not only help you to find the most obvious problems but also give you a lots of new ideas and point out potential conecptual problems. If this is a good you thing you have to decide yourself ;)

    And: Joost! (need an invite…)

sorry but i think you have to wait a few more hours for the invitations to joost. It seems like they forgot the invitation page in the new design – even the menu link is missing – strange.

I’m not quite sure how your application will look like and be based on, but a lazy registration, combined with a demo account would be the ideal thing.

Lazy registration means, that a user does not really need to actually register him or herself, but rather just start playing with your plattform. In this case, the data would need to be stored either completely in cookies, or you have them in your database and just an id set in the cookie.

Let the user choose to actually register fully, what normally would mean to create a login by providing the email address. This way, you would not need to spoil invitations to peope, who would only want to take peek.

On the other hand, if there are too much people, you could at that point cut off the lazy registration, but have one demo account open, where the user can do almost everything he/she could do as a real user.

This would mean more work, of course, but I bet the users would be greatful for that feature.

@Dirk: Thanks for your opinion. I see the advantages of what you call “lazy registrations” and i already thought about it. I can’t say too much about SimpleSnip yet but i think those lazy regitrations won’t be too handy here – neither for the users nor for me. But of course the registration process should be handy enough to get it quickly done.

@Cordobo: SimpleSnip – without the s at the end ;)
